Julia Wade And Friends – Part 10: Do You Hear What I Hear

The song, Do You Hear What I Hear, has always stuck with me as one of our most beautiful Christmas melodies. For years the lyrics ran in and out of my head and I can’t say as I ever really knew what the song was about beyond the birth of Jesus.

With Julia Wade and Friends, I was looking for a song that we could all do together as a Quartet.

I spent hours researching so many of the Christmas Classics, but just kept coming up empty. Then I was just led to this perfect song. I say “perfect” because the song is actually a little drama between four “people” – the night wind, a little lamb, a shepherd boy and a king. Each one hands off the song to the next as they spread the good news.

My three lady friends, each with their amazing voices, provided, for me, a tough challenge to keep up and hold my own.

Also, as a producer, blending four such distinct voices was also challenging, yet the three ladies definitely made it easier by shaping their sounds to one another. Rebecca kicks it off, Jenny holds down the middle and Julia brings it home. I land, as the shepherd boy, somewhere in between.
Quartets are always great fun. This one was no exception.

Do You Hear What I Hear

Music and Lyrics by Noel Regney & Gloria Shayne
Featured on Julia Wade and Friends: A Christmas Album

Do you see
Do you hear
Do you know
Listen

Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see

A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear

A song, a song
High above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know
In your palace warm mighty king
Do you know what I know

A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold

Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what I say

The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

Do you hear what I hear
He will bring us goodness and light
