Ain’t Life Grand!
Inspirational poem by Peter Link.
Ain’t Life Grand!
Sometimes the roof is caving in
Sometimes the walls are made of dust
Sometimes you climb the stairs
And find they lead to nowhere
Sometimes you come home
To find the house you built is gone
And in its place stands a supermarket
And you can’t go in
But ain’t life grand!
Sometimes you wake up
And your body ain’t your friend
Your head is screwed on backwards
And your arms don’t work no more
What was forward
Now is back
What was right
Now is left
(or rather, now is wrong)
Or rather, what was up is down
What was out is in
What was true is false
What was fun is sin
Sometimes the road you took
Turns out to be the wrong one
You gallop on expecting
But you’re only further lost
You finally stop to evaluate
Your out-of-sorts position
And wonder how you could have let it all go on
So wrong
So long
You pinch yourself to wake up from this all-absorbing dream
Only to find that that you’re not dreaming after all
This is it
This is life
And you’ve gone and lost your way
Ain’t life grand!
And so there’s nothing left to do but pray
And in your prayers you see a light
That may lead back to home
To who you are
To what you dreamed
Before you lost your way
It’s just a spec
This tiny light
But faith being what it is
You turn yourself from the weary road
And set your course again
Once more you know not where you go
But one thing stands now clear
The course you took was wrong
The song you sang was wrong
The life you led was not your own
But borrowed from a stranger
And only led you further into danger
You lost your way
And now it’s time to find it
Ain’t life grand!
You stand on shifting sand
And wonder if you still have strength
To take this other road
And then you see you really have no choice
The only possibility
Lies in this tiny spec of light
This one small hope
This tinkling of faith
This distant chance to live the life you should
And so you pause
And pray again
And gather to your center
The light begins to glow more steady
The hope begins to grow
The dawn begins its dawning
The darkness starts to grey
You take next breath
You blink
You breathe
Your heart beats on
Your vision clears
Your hearing gains perspective
Your touch becomes more delicate
Your thought becomes more focused
Your strength begins to rise
Your choice to let the old life go
Is easy now
It frees you
Thank God for the chance to start again
Ain’t life grand?
All is not lost
Nor time been wasted
Consider what you’ve learned…
But learn it well
And never make the mistake
Of losing who you are
And running these wrong roads again
Prayer always illuminates another chance
Another road
A better idea
Evolution
We live this life to discover who we are
So better pay attention
“Work, watch and pray”
That’s what they say
Work
Watch
And pray
The balance between the working and the watching was off
We worked so hard, we had no time to watch
So now we have to pray
Next time we’ll do it better
We’ll stay to who we are
We pray to know thyself
And watch the road a little closer
The body will heal
The roof will be restored
We’ll climb the stairs with confidence once again
Ain’t life grand!
How Beautiful!
I have been praying all the more to know “God’s” will for me.
Peter, I hope you’re looking at this blog as content for a song.
In the words of a song I love:
“Uphold me with thy sweet spirit. What ever you do Lord, don’t take your
joy from me”.
