Back In The Saddle Again

These days I’m a happy man. I spend just about every waking hour in the studio finishing up Julia Wade’s new Inspirational music CD, Every Day. For months now I’ve been complaining about not getting enough time in the studio working on my music. Be careful what you wish for…
We’re done recording, the vocals are finished except for one song and I’m deep into the mixing process. Julia’s release party is November 11th, so we’re hell bent to get it all done.
This CD will come with an on-line Digi-Book that will be an in-depth look at the process from both the eyes of Julia and her producer, yours truly. The package promises to be full of inspirational music, “backstage” info and a bit of an expanded direction for Julia.
You might consider giving the CD as gifts for the holiday season. You can do it all from your armchair at home on your computer complete with a special Christmas gift card right from the Watchfiremusic.com website. What could be easier?
I love the mixing process. It’s the time when months and months of work finally all comes together into a finished product. In the old days when we still recorded to tape, we used to allow 24 hours for a mix of one song. By the end of that 24 hours you’d have one dead engineer and one dead producer with no ears left. It was brutal. By the time you were finished you had no idea of what you had in the can, you were so tired.
But today it’s all far more civilized. With automated mixing and recording digitally straight into your computer, one actually mixes the song every moment they’re working on it over the months of tracking and vocals. By the time you get to the mix process, the mix is pretty much there – every fader move remembered and performed by the computer’s automation process.
For instance, I mixed Julia’s song, Finding The Christ In Me, yesterday in about three and a half hours. I had fresh ears and mixed in the early to later part of the morning when I was at my best. This way it all ends up as a better product and a clearer concept of the original intent of the music. Here’s one area where technology really comes in handy and allows the light to shine through.
I’ll mix eight more songs over the coming week and a half while Julia’s running around getting her pictures done for the album graphics. It’s a whirlwind here at WFM getting ready to both package and promote this CD and get it ready for distribution this Christmas.
So we’re hoping you’ll do your part. Your part is, of course, to buy the CD and give it a listen. Much of the music on the CD will also be represented and for sale in our Digital Sheet Music store at Watchfiremusic.com also, so if you’re wantin’ to sing along, go for it!
This Christmas, give the gift of Inspirational music. What could be a better holiday gift?
