Getting Away With It

Law of Life

Why is it that we think we can get away with it?  And, oh yes, it happens to us all.  It comes under the subject heading “Cheating”.  Somehow we go through this life pushing the envelope, seeing how far we can go before the inevitable balance swings and rights the wrong.

Perhaps it’s just with that extra dessert or that thrown in, self-justifying sentence of gossip or that slight omission on our income tax report.  Perhaps it’s that slight exaggeration, or that roll through the stop sign when nobody’s lookin’ or that daydream of sweet revenge.

What if we knew absolutely for sure that we never, and I mean 100% never actually get away with anything; that life, or God, or just the equilibrium of balance is such that all wrong gets righted (some call it punished) no matter what?  That nobody ever gets away with anything.

Would it change the way we think?  Would it change the way we act towards others?  Would it change the way we think and act regarding ourselves?  You bet!

What if all us humans could see and hear the thoughts of all us other humans at all times and be privy at any moment we choose to each other’s thinking?  Then we couldn’t cheat and we wouldn’t cheat because we would know that we’d always be seen for who we truly are in each moment.  We would have to raise our consciousness above the petty.  We’d have to watch our thought so carefully to eliminate anything suspect.  We’d have to live perfect lives.  Egads!

What if any of these old adages were true?

Instant Karma’s gonna get cha.”  “What goes around, comes around.”  “The good you do equals the good you receive.”  “Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.”

Well, guess what?  You knew I was coming to this, didn’t you?  You knew because deep inside us all we know the truth.  Some of us lose focus in a big way and murder, or rob banks and some of us lose focus in small every day ways and rob souls, but it is within us to know that a person’s actions, whether good or bad, will absolutely have consequences for that person.

In short, we never get away with it.  What we put out there is coming right back at us.  It’s the law of life and we know it, yet we keep right on testing it to see if it’s really true even though we learn over and over again throughout our lives that the law simply is.  It’s a law.  Break it and we pay.

We don’t get away wid nuttin’.

There are always consequences.  Hide it in every way you can, but it shall always be revealed.  It’ll always come back and bite cha in the butt.

Ouch!  “Why’d that happen?” you ask.  Well, someone’s up there, out there, in there somewhere keepin’ score.  We all wish it weren’t so, but it just is.

I’ll say it again.

We don’t get away wid nuttin’.
