Julia Wade And Friends – Part 12: Christmas Eve

Most of my best Christmas memories have either to do with when I was a kid or when my son was a kid. So, would that mean that Christmas is just for kids? Well, better put would be that Christmas is the most fun for the kid in all of us. Often it has mostly to do with the giving and the getting, but sometimes it involves a myriad of other stories as well.

Suffice it to say that Christmas is just a special time of the year that brings forth all colors of emotions and feelings.

It’s probably most people’s favorite holiday. Sadly, it often, with some, leaves out the true purpose of the day – the commemoration of the birth of a truly amazing man who showed us the way we could live life, be happy, healthy and productive.

In my family, Christmas Eve was always devoted to celebrating the birth of Jesus, and Christmas day was left to Santa. I had smart parents. But once I would finally get to bed every Christmas Eve night … oh brother … it was always a tough 6-8 hours.

Christmas Eve

Music and Lyrics by Peter Link

On this night the world is blue
Snow light and frosting bring a silent
Anticipation of dreams

Oh night thou flows so slowly
When I awake in the morning
Will all be as promised?
Will there be peace on Earth?
And what will there be for me beneath the tree?

On this night before this day
Children are sleeping with their sox on
Waiting for Christmas to begin

The stockings are hung
The sleigh bells jingle
Outside
Then up on the roof
I’ll hear the footsteps
So lightly they prance
While sailing through the sky

Oh what a night is Christmas Eve
Oh what a long long night
And oh how I ache for Christmas morning
Wishing the night goodbye

Listening for the signs of him
Squeezing his belly down our chimney
How does he manage the fire?

Mom told me
“Santa’s quite magic”
He can go back up
Through the chimney
Even after he eats
All the cookies we left for him

On this night the world is blue
Moonlight keeps falling through my window
Making me wonder how reindeers fly

And how will he know of all my wishes
And grant them?
And what if he knows I lie here waiting
And can’t go to sleep?
Will he just pass me on by?

Oh what a night is Christmas Eve
Oh what a long long night
And oh how I ache for Christmas morning
As the child in me is waiting
And waiting
And waiting
And waiting
And waiting
And waiting…
