I always wanted to go to Rio – city of passion, Christ on a mountaintop overlooking the New York City of our Southern Hemisphere, and oh the women! A truly original atmosphere reflected by a truly original music.

As a kid I once fell in love with a girl from Ipanema and listened to all the great music of Stan Getz, guitarist Joao Gilberto, pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim and vocalist Astrud Gilberto until the grooves wore out.

I always wished I had some of that music in me.

Later in life I bought a little house near St John, Antigua where I spent a number of years composing the sounds of de wind an’ waves, de crickets an’ de tree frogs – the sounds of the Caribbean. I’d sit on the beach and everything that came out of my guitar and throat would sound Reggae or Calypso. I didn’t even have to try – it just came out that way. I wrote my impressions, or perhaps my impressions wrote themselves.

I learned that to be authentic, you have to immerse yourself in the culture, not just study the music technique. You have to live it to write it.

David Gonzalez is an original. He’ll take you to Rio and southern places beyond. He knows intrinsically the grooves, inner rhythms and rich harmonies of this magic land.

So lie back, close your eyes and put on a little Brazilian Breeze. If you like, you can spend a warm, balmy night in Rio with David and friends.
