Who was Elijah?
According to the Books of Kings Elijah was a prophet in the Kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahab and Jezebel in the 9th century BC. Elijah defended the worship of Yahweh over that of the more popular Baal, he raised the dead, brought fire down from the sky, and ascended into heaven in a whirlwind (either accompanied by a chariot and horses of fire or riding in it). In the Book of Malachi, Elijah’s return is prophesied “before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord,” making him a harbinger of the Messiah. Derivative references to Elijah appear in the Talmud, Mishnah, the New Testament, and the Qur’an.
Was there really a Chariot of Fire?
And it came to pass as they walked on
And talked on
There appeared a chariot of fire
And horses of fire…
Oh c’mon, who we foolin here?
A chariot of fire swoops down from the sky and carries a man off to heaven?
Was it an alien abduction?
Is it all just a metaphor?
Was everybody watching kind of ‘on something’?
We’ll let you decide!
